There's a new way to earn United miles on your next trip, and it's not flying (or even spending) with United Airlines: It's by booking your rental car through the car-sharing platform Turo.
In a first for the popular rental car platform, Turo announced Wednesday morning a brand-new partnership with United that allows customers to earn United Mileage Plus miles on every Turo trip. The way you'll earn miles is shockingly simple:
- You'll earn 5x miles per dollar on your first Turo trip
- And 1x mile per dollar on every Turo trip thereafter
Not familiar with Turo? It's like the Airbnb of rental cars, allowing car owners to rent out their vehicles to you for your travels. And it's often drastically cheaper than major rental car companies.
Turo's carshare platform helps you skip the long lines at the airport, save time choosing a car, and avoid the high fees that traditional rental car companies charge. Unlike traditional rental car companies, you can pick exactly which vehicle you want – including some fun options you won't find on the lots of Hertz, Avis, or National. You even get the flexibility of choosing pick-up and drop-off methods.
With this new way to rack up miles, I'd earn a total of 672 United Miles on this 2022 Toyota Sienna I'm renting through Turo for a four-day trip to Oregon next summer. While that's not a ton of miles, it's not nothing either.
To earn United miles on your next Turo rental, simply link your United MileagePlus account (or sign up for one for free) to your Turo account. You can link accounts at Turo's dedicated page for its new United partnership.
This new partnership makes a ton of sense. Turo has become more and more popular over the years but lacked a way to reward users for their loyalty – aside from potentially saving a ton on a rental, of course. Other big box rental car companies let you earn a ton of points renting a car through a travel portal like Capital One Travel, or even through an airline itself.
And now, there's an exciting new way to get rewarded for your Turo rental, too.
